3. Ready Player One
“As terrifying and painful as reality can be, it's also the only place where you can find true happiness. Because reality is real.” -James Halliday, Ready Player One
Be REAL with yourself.
Just as we offer a helping hand to a friend, family member, co-worker, spouse, or even random stranger who may seem down-and-out, we need to learn to do the same for ourselves. This helping hand can mean a plethora of things from tough love to a comforting hug, but no matter the means, our ultimate goal remains the same: achieving a positive perspective.
For the purposes of this blog series, we are speaking to healthy holiday habits, but you could apply this mentality to several aspects of your life. During any type of stressful time, you need to be able to decide to put yourself first.
Does this mentally mean giving yourself the typical “pat on the back”? Not all the time.
If you had to deal with yourself at work, what would you say? If you had to talk yourself through a difficult situation, how would that conversation go?
Learn to negotiate, to find a common ground, to effectively communicate with yourself in order to achieve a united goal. Sounds weird right? We cannot truly expect ourselves to invest our valuable time & energy into something if we do not genuinely believe in/have the confidence in ourselves to be able to achieve it!
Talk to yourself, speak to your life.
Be bold.
Be honest.
What does this look like? Well, some days it might look like writing remember you are beautiful on your bathroom mirror while other days it may be that you are frustrated & mumbling under your breath oh man, you messed up, you need to be better tomorrow.
Allow yourself to speak to both the positive and negative aspects of your day.
What if we don’t necessarily know how to start the conversation? What do we do?
Ready yourself & find your relief. If you find comfort in nature, go for a walk. If you find comfort behind the wheel, go for a drive. If you find comfort in the Lord, say a prayer. Find that place in which you can go (physically or figuratively) to refocus yourself amidst the chaos of life.
From there, you CAN control the work necessary to gain back your confidence.
You CAN begin to help yourself recognize that it is not just about harnessing the idea of positivity, but rather, understanding the power of perspective to realign yourself to feel & live it again.
